How to Differentiate Between Learning and Learned – And Improving Your Life by It
I have come across many people who tell me they are learned, perhaps not so bluntly, but who certainly give that impression in their speeches, and notes, or articles. Whist there is nothing wrong with being learned, I can assure you that my point will become clearer in a minute. I will be the first to tell you that you need to educate yourself, and always be learning more. Let's face it, the world is a constantly changing place, and it's not about keeping up with the Jones', but rather keeping abreast of the way things change, as otherwise, you will simply be left behind.
To explain this a little better, think of some of the jobs or professions that exist today. Some of them did not exist ten years ago. An example could include a pyrolysis engineer, which is an engineer that deals with using vegetation, and transforming old, decaying vegetation into energy. This is just one of countless examples. Now, where am I going with this?
As you would well know, the people that learned something some time ago, and then decided, possibly subconsciously, that they now know what they need, may have stopped learning on an ongoing basis. How many of you had a fellow student in school vowing they would never sit another exam in their lives after they finished school? I always laugh to myself when I think of that scene when I graduated from High School. My point being, that the people who decide they need not learn more, very quickly lose touch with current trends and ideas. In some cases, as the problems worsens, they may reach a point where they simply do not know, that they do not know.
Having considered the above, think now of a person that you know is always wanting to improve their lot in life, and know new things. People who are learners on a continual basis are always on the lookout for new information, and ways to better themselves, and to stay current. The simple fact is that life is always changing, even if you think you don't like change. The only actual constant is change, and accepting it, will not only help you to excel, but make the process easier. Be a current learner, rather than just learned.
I have found that in my daily business affairs, and online marketing, I am applying techniques that are both long term and proven, as well as the newer ones. An example to illustrate this would be the use of social marketing. Sites and systems like twitter did not exist a few years ago, but they are now able to be used as lead generators for my various online endeavours. They can also be used to advertise traditional business, when done the right way. All this involves constant learning and adjustment.
