Stephen Covey’s book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, had a real impact on my life. In fact, I always recommend it to people who attend my Personal Development workshops. When my boss read it, however, his first comment to me was that there was something missing – his problem was that he didn’t see how you get from the theory to the practice.

There is no doubt that the principles outlined in the book are fundamental truths, indeed they were even known to Aristotle. He said that there are three basic steps that you must take to get what you want out of life.

1. Understand that you Can achieve Success

2. Define what Success represents, for You

3. Organise you life around its Achievement

And he was absolutely right. Don’t under-estimate the value of these simple steps because here you have the ultimate success formula. It is the secret that everyone who has ever been successful, in any field of endeavour, has used.

In his follow-up book, First Things First – the definitive work on Time Management – Stephen Covey explains that most people are driven by the concept of urgency. But to really effect positive change in our lives, we need to reorganize the way we spend our time; based on the concept of importance – not urgency. For most people, the problem is that we are continually doing the urgent stuff, at the expense of the important.

The results of properly dedicating ourselves to the important activity are that we will gain control over what is happening in our lives: we will thereby reduce the time we spend being driven by the concept of urgency. Time for important activity, of course, must come from elsewhere. It must come from saying ‘no’ to some of the urgent stuff!

So there is no question that to achieve something significant, we need to take the subject of Time Management very seriously. To help you with this, we are pleased to be able to offer you an excellent book on the subject …

Many of you will have no doubt, heard of The Secret, and it’s affect on so many around the world.

The Secret Explained

For those of you who are familiar with The Secret- you may consider this a refresher.

For those of you who are new to The Secret, it is a movie, a book, and a series of audios that was released around 2007 to the world.

It was a program created to explain the laws of the masters- people who have achieved great wealth in their resperctive times, from the understanding of certain principles.

For many people, these principles were not immediately explained, or made clear, but it has been found that many are now learning them, and changing their lives for the better.

The Secret Principle

In it’smost condensed form, the Secret principle is about the Law of Attraction, and the way we attract into our lives, the things, situations, and circumstances we want.

Naturally, there is a more detailed explanation behind this, but we do in fact attract into our lives, the things that we most think about.

For more information, and to see positive change in your life today, head over to the Forgotten Laws.

“If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it,
you can become it. ”
- William Arthur Ward

The Seventh Habit – no doubt you will recall – of Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is ‘Sharpen the Saw’. What does it mean to ‘Sharpen the Saw’?

It is simply an analogy favoured by Stephen Covey: you are the saw; and to sharpen the saw is to improve yourself. Self-Improvement (or Self Help) is of course the theme of our website. In this habit, (Habit 7) Covey considers self-improvement to be all about improving yourself in the following three areas of your life: your physical body, your mind and your spirit.

To internalize this habit, you must ask yourself the following questions: what am I doing to keep physically fit, to sharpen my mind and to align my vision and mission with the universal mind of God? These questions convey the essence of this habit from the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

Creating a daily routine of some sort is essentially what this habit is about. Now it is very personal, but it might consist of going for a jog; reading something inspirational (that’s where we can help, of course); and reviewing your mission & goals. You might also consider activities such as Yoga, Tai Chi, Meditation & Prayer – it’s for you to decide.

But one great way to start each day is by getting a daily dose of extra energy and that is what Kacper Postawski’s little book is all about. You can download your copy here …

I’ve no doubt you have experienced those people in your life, those whose love, caring and giving has been a healing, life-changing experience.

Perhaps those people are close to you and in regular contact  – family members, friends and loved ones, or perhaps some have come fleetingly or during certain periods of your life to make that all important difference.

I wanted share a poem below that I came across recently, which honours those who have helped along the way; helped us see more of who we truly are, and bring out the essence of our soul, givine of their hearts and sharing the richness of their beauty and goodness.

It’s called ‘Some People’ and is just below. It’s a great one to share with those that have made a difference in your life :)

“Some People”
By Flavia Weedn

Some people come into our lives
and quickly go… Some stay for awhile
and embrace our silent dreams.

They help us become aware
of the delicate winds of hope…
and we discover within every human spirit
there are wings yearning to fly.

They help our hearts to see that
the only stairway to the stars
is woven with dreams…
and we find ourselves
unafraid to reach high.

They celebrate the true essence
of who we are…
and have faith in all
that we may become.

Some people awaken us
to new and deeper realizations…
for we gain insight
from the passing whisper of their wisdom

Throughout our lives we are sent
precious souls…
meant to share our journey
however brief or lasting their stay
they remind us why we are here.

To learn… to teach… to nurture… to love

Some people come into our lives
to cast a steady light
upon our path and guide our every step
their shining belief in us
helps us to believe in ourselves.

Some people come into our
lives to teach us about love…
The love that rests within ourselves.

Let us reach out to others
and feel the bliss of giving
for love is far richer in action
that it ever is in words.

Some people come into our lives
and they move our souls to sing
and make our spirits dance.

They help us to see that everything on earth
is part of the incredibility of life…
and that it is always there
for us to take of its joy.

Some people come into our lives
and leave footprints on our hearts
and we are never ever the same.

The Importance of Persistance, and Passing the Highest Hump

I wanted to run across a point you have no doubt heard many times before, but maybe not in the words I am going to use.

I have also found that hearing the same lesson from different people is often interpreted differently, and I want to relate a story regarding some teachers I have had at college to clarify this point.

I had been studying a computing subject (programming language) that I had not been able to ifully understand, even though I had numerous classes, with different teachers on the subject.

Around three years later, I had a class with a different teacher, who taught the same subject.

At that time, the ideas and concepts became very much clearer, and I remember to this day, the feeling of incredulity, and amasement that all of a sudden, the ‘penny had dropped, and the material had sunk in.

I have often thought about this experience, and realise that in life, we often go through experiences in a similar vain, on different paths of our lives.

I had on many occasions, thought of quitting that computing subject, and simply giving up.

However, that would then mean I had no more chance at getting an understanding in that subject, which formed part of my curriculum.

It woud also mean that I would always be thinking, “What If?”

I have also found, in my case, that complex subjects have only really sunk in, after the event, by some time.

Persistance

My point here is that if we give up, when the going gets tough, we reduce our chances of getting what we want to Zero.

On the other hand, if you liken this concept to walking up a steep hill, you will remember that it is often the hardest, just before you reach the top.

I’m not sure if it is psychological or not, but I suspect it is similar for everyone, as everyone ZI have spoken to, and all the books I have read have referred to a similar experience.

I can only hope that I have adequately encouraged you ro always be persistant, and head for your dreams, and goals, no matter how tough it may seem at the time.

Beter still, it gets much better when you can look back and say, “I did it”!

You will feel all the effort was worth while, and be motivated, from each success, to move to the next level.
